One of the easiest things to talk about but hardest things to truly understand is the idea of forgiveness. For various reasons, many find it difficult to believe that we can have a “fresh start” when we come into a relationship with Jesus Christ, as if no one could ever love us that much. The reality of the situation is this: God loves you so much and He wants nothing more than for you to turn away from your sins and rest in His arms.
This covenant of forgiveness is one of most beautiful promises we can find in Scripture. 1 John 1:9 reminds us that God is faithful to forgive us (if we confess our sins) and will purify us from all unrighteousness. He wipes our slates totally clean, casting our sins as far as the east is from the west. All of this is accomplished through the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross, where His blood was shed to wipe us clean, white as snow (Isaiah 1:18).
But we have to be willing to accept it. Relationships are a two-way street, and thankfully for us, God does most (if not all) of the work through his unfathomable grace. So repent of those sins that weigh you down, believe on the Lord Jesus who paid it all, and rest easy in the peace of mind that comes with total forgiveness through our Savior.
