You Can Overcome

As Christians, we will face trials–whether we’re fighting the world, the flesh, the devil, or a combination of all three. Satan is out to “kill, steal, and destroy”he wants to frustrate you, he wants to discourage you, and most importantly he wants to separate you from God by tempting you to sin.

Being a disciple of Jesus isn’t easy. His yoke is easy and His burden is light (Matthew 11:30), but there’s still a yokethere’s still a burden. The certainty that we will go through trials can be alarming. However, if we truly are in Christ, we can take heart in the beautiful promise of John 16:33.

John 1:2-4 reminds us to “consider it pure joy” when we fall into “various trials.” But what does that actually look like? The way I see it, if I’m finding myself in various situations that are not-so-favorable and Satan is rearing his ugly head, it must mean that I’m making an impact for the Kingdom. That in itself helps me get through whatever pain or frustration I’m experiencing.

John 16:33 ends with a reminder to “be of good cheer” because Jesus has overcome the world.  Jesus achieved the ultimate victory through his sacrifice on the cross and resurrection, and as Christians we have the privilege of sharing in that victory.

Remember, when you face those “various trials,” pause… breathe… laugh… and realize that this hurtful or irritating situation is minor in comparison to the ultimate victory we have in Jesus Christ.
